In-Home Care Class

The In-Home Care class is for any adult learner who has a goal of working in the in-home care industry. In this class, we will learn the skills necessary to be an effective and employable in-home care employee. We will also study the many career choices, the requirements, client conditions, client communication, documentation, professional communication, and cultural diversity.

 

Working in the in-home care industry is about relationships, and relationships are about communication. Each student will have many chances to speak, listen, role-play and participate in group discussions.

 

Course Goals:

  • To gain the skills needed to apply, interview and successfully get an in-home care job.
  • To know the role of the caregiver.
  • To be familiar with the required documentation.
  • To understand common elderly diseases.
  • To understand pain and its effects on the elderly.
  • To be knowledgeable about elder abuse and neglect.
  • To understand cultural differences in the workplace.
  • To be knowledgeable about infection control.
  • To be proficient in general client care.
  • To understand elderly nutrition and get meal prep tips.
  • To be knowledgeable about the equipment used for client care.
  • To understand the basics of housekeeping.
  • To earn your CPR / First Aid certification. (FREE)
